For the first time, Biolympiads.com will be running a hands-on online research camp in partnership with a Harvard professor!

The Advanced BioResearch Program 2026 invites ambitious middle and high school students to explore how technology and biology evolve together to advance human health. From CRISPR and next-generation sequencing to synthetic biology and advanced microscopy — you’ll learn how each innovation reveals new layers of how life works. In this program, you won’t just memorize concepts—you’ll use them.

Program Goals

This program helps students build a strong foundation in “The Synergistic Progress of Experimental Technology and Biomedical Research.” By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

1| Understand What Makes Living Systems ‘Tick’: Inspired by Erwin Schrödinger’s What is Life?, explore how molecular biology uncovers the secrets of living systems at the tiniest scales.

2| Identify What Goes Wrong in Disease—and How to Fix It: Learn how researchers pinpoint cellular or molecular “defects” behind diseases and design ways to repair or treat them.

Curriculum Overview

• Module 1: The Synergistic Progress of Experimental Technology & Biomedical Research: Discover how new biological insights spark technological innovation—and how invention fuels the next wave of discovery.

• Module 2: Exploring the Brain with Massively Parallel Nucleotide Sequencing: Use next-generation sequencing to map neurons and uncover how the brain’s genetic code changes in health and disease.

Module 3: Advanced Microscopy & Spatial Transcriptomics: From early microscopes to super- resolution imaging, see how scientists visualize cells, genes, and molecular activity in stunning detail.

• Module 4: Genome Editing with CRISPR Technologies: Enter the age of precision genetics—learn how CRISPR cuts, edits, and regulates genes, reshaping both research and medicine.

• Module 5: Synthetic Biology in Research & Therapy: Apply engineering to biology: design synthetic chromosomes, create new signaling pathways, and study real therapeutic breakthroughs.

• Module 6: Student Research Project Presentation: Design your own research proposal using the advanced technologies learned. Receive detailed written feedback and evaluation from Professor Sam Kunes and the TA team.

What You’ll Gain

• University-level scientific experience equivalent in rigor to an AP course

• Hands-on projectbased learning guided by Harvard faculty

• Personalized evaluation and potential recommendation letter for exceptional students

• A strong college portfolio piece demonstrating research ability, initiative, and academic passion
