Greetings from Biolympiads!

We are inviting all beginners preparing for USABO 2022 to join our Intensive Introductory USABO Preparation Course. Many of our students are in the Top 100 and Top 50 nationwide. In addition, every year we have 3-4 students among the 20 USABO National finalists.

The goal of the Biolympiads Training Program is to prepare highly motivated students to compete in the USA Biology Olympiad and other biology contests. The students will follow a curriculum prepared by our experienced biology olympiad coaches.

The current program consists of 18 weeks of intensive introductory training to prepare students for the USABO exams. It will cover the most important topics which come up in the USABO exams. The key course textbook is Campbell Biology (any edition from 9th) which can be purchased on Amazon here https://amzn.to/2HKomu7. Every week, students will cover 2-4 chapters from Campbell. Each class is accompanied by homework. Also students will receive handouts which can be printed out before the class.

GROUP NAME

The current camp’s name is The Onionins. As you might suspect, onionin is the ingenious name given to a new molecule extracted from, duh, onions, Allium cepa to be precise. It’s a sulfur-containing compound which may have tumor suppressing qualities. The preparation method taken from the paper below sounds a bit like a cooking recipe: take a few large onions, roughly chop them, and then put them into a blender with some acetone, and blend into a puree. Leave to soak for 3 days at room temperature before filtering. Thanks to Jan Linders for this molecule. Ref: M. El-Aasr, et al., J. Nat. Prod. (2010).
